La Galerie Riff Art Projects est heureuse de vous présenter au premier étage de son es­pace l’exposition Goodriver de l’artiste français Nicolas Schneider. Après une première exposition personnelle à la Galerie parisienne en 2011, cette exposition est l’occasion de faire découvrir au public turc la diversité et la cohérence de l’oeuvre de cet artiste singulier.
L’eau dans l’oeuvre de Nicolas Schneider, vient comme le Bosphore à Istan­bul, déposer des pigments d’ailleurs et s’évapore pour laisser de nouvelles formes.
Des formes énigmatiques et des personnages plein d’humour et de subtilité. Des contours nets et flous qui sont simples et complexes à la fois. Cette cohabitation invente et créée une magie, celle-là même qui nous échappe, celle-là même qui nous fait plonger dans une oeuvre d’art.
Ces dessins qui nous paraissent si spontanés sont en réalité le cheminement d’un long processus, d’une longue route parcourue par Nicolas Schneider. Ils nous viennent de ses petits carnets d’esquisses, qui sont par la suite mutés, hybridés et dont l’artiste affronte sur le papier tendu à même la planche de travail, l’agrandissement et la mise en oeuvre.
Dans ses aquarelles, dont le sujet semble à la fois souple et vaporeux, Nicolas Sch­neider parvient à faire naître une tension et une matière semblable à la forme d’une chair mise en oeuvre par un sculpteur, discipline dont il a saisi le sens il y a bien longtemps dans un passé de fondeur d’art, et à laquelle il reviendra peut être.
Commencer, recommencer, Nicolas Schneider est exigent envers cette eau qu’il tente de dompter. Exigent, il l’est aussi envers lui-même en ne cédant jamais à une premi­ère esquisse qui ne lui conviendrait pas, il ne choisit pas la facilité d’une forme qu’il maitrise déjà et n’a de cesse de chercher de nouvelles routes. C’est sans au­cun doute ce travail d’explorateur permanent, de la forme et de la matière, qui nous a poussé à vouloir défendre son travail et lui donner la visibilité qu’il mérite.

Riff Art Projects Gallery is pleased to present “Goodriver”, an exhibition by the French artist Nicolas Schneider, on the first floor of the Gallery. Nicolas Schneider and the Gallery have al­ready worked together for a first and personal exhibition in Paris in 2011. The current exhibition is the occasion to introduce the diverse and singular work of this artist to the Turkish audience.
Water is to Nicolas Schneider’s work what the Bosphorus is to Istanbul.
Foreign pigments are deposited before evaporating, leaving behind new shapes.
Enigmatic shapes, humoristic and subtle personages, clear and blurred
outlines both simple and complex: such cohabitation brings out and cre­ates magic; the same magic that eludes us and plunges us into a work of art.
His drawings might seem extremely spontaneous to us. They are, however, the
result of a long development, a lengthy process Nicolas Schneider went through. They were born in small sketchbooks to be later transformed, hybridized by the art­ist who, on paper stretched over a worktable, enlarges and brings them to life.
In his watercolours, whose theme appears at once supple and blurry, Nicolas
Schneider manages to create tension and matter similar to the shape of flesh, born from the hands of a sculptor. No wonder since, being an ex-art foundry man, he understands the meaning of sculpture, an art he might go back to one day.
Starting and starting anew, Nicolas Schneider demands a lot from water which he tries to master. He is just as demanding towards himself, never stopping at a first and
unsatisfying sketch. He never chooses the easy solution of using a form he already
masters and never stops looking for new routes. It is undoubtedly this exploratory work with form and matter that led us to support his work and give it the visibility it deserves.
